(I updated the previous post for the Booster Club’s newsletter and thought you might enjoy the new information, too.)

Those of you who were big fans of last year’s Sidewinder’s team might be wondering what happened to the crew in the off season.  Here’s what my research has shown me about some of our old favorites (current as of April 12th).  No particular order to this listing…

Dana Eveland (P) – Oakland Athletics:  Dana has pitched two games and has a .68 ERA, with a 1 and 0 record, 13 strikeouts.  (That’s GREAT!)

Enrique Gonzalez (P) – San Diego Padres:  Enrique has pitched in three games and has a whopping ERA of 15.43, with one win, no losses, and one strikeout.

Chad Harville (P) – really odd…I can’t find a current assignment for him anywhere…and you must remember how he ROCKED as our closer last year!  There’s some vague indication he might be part of the Tampa Bay family, but I haven’t been able to track that down to state that with any certainty.

Bill Murphy (P) – Syracuse Chiefs (IL AAA affiliate of Toronto Blue Jays):  Murph has pitched in three games for the Chiefs – ERA of 1.54, one win, one loss, and 11 strikeouts.

Mark Johnson (C) – Memphis Red Birds (PCL AAA affiliate of St. Louis Cardinals):  MJ is currently batting .286, with four hits and one run, and no homers, in 14 at bats.

Brian Barden (INF) – Memphis Red Birds (PCL AAA affiliate of St. Louis Cardinals):  Bardo is batting .333, with 14 hits, four runs, and one homer in 39 at bats.

Casey Daigle (P) – Rochester Red Wings (IL AAA affiliate of Minnesota Twins):  Casey has posted a 4.91 ERA in 3.2 innings of work (over four games).  He has no wins and one loss and one strikeout.

Chris Carter (INF) – Pawtucket Red Sox (IL AAA affiliate of Boston Red Sox):  CC is currently batting .333, with 12 hits and 3 runs in 36 at bats.  No homers yet.

Danny Richar (INF) – Chicago White Sox (on 15-day DL for stress fracture, rib cage – ouch!)

D.J. Carrasco (P) – Charlotte Knights (IL AAA affiliate of Chicago White Sox):  D.J. has no current record and is on the 7-day DL.

Carlos Quentin (OF) – Chicago White Sox:  Carlos is batting .276, with eight hits, seven runs, one homer, and 10 RBIs in 29 at bats.

Mike Schultz (P) – Signed as a free agent by the Hiroshima Toyo Carp, of the Japanese Central League.  I haven’t been able to find anything in English that will provide information on how Mike’s doing over there.

Adam Bass (P) – Speaking of Japan…you may remember Adam left us last season to play in Japan.  Adam’s back in the USofA now, playing for the Portland Beavers (PCL AAA affiliate of the San Diego Padres), so we’ll be seeing him again this year.  Adam has posted a 10.12 ERA thus far in 2.2 innings of work.  He’s given up three earned runs, one walk…and has registered four strikeouts.

Dustin Nippert (P) – Texas Rangers:  New Dad Dustin has a scary ERA of 16.20 after 3.1 innings of work (two games).  No wins, no losses, and two strikeouts.

Rich Thompson (OF) – Pawtucket Red Sox (IL AAA affiliate of Boston Red Sox):  Rich has no record to date.  It looks like he might have been released by the Red Sox.

Alberto Callaspo (INF) – Kansas City Royals:  Berto is batting .357, with five hits, one run, one RBI, and no homers in 14 at bats (five games).

Donnie Sadler (INF) – Looks like Donnie hasn’t landed anywhere after his suspension last year for illegal drug use.  I still worry about him and his young family.

Dee Brown (OF) – Salt Lake Bees (PCL AAA affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim):  we lost Dee early last year…he was traded to the Athletics and we were forced to face him as a Sacramento River Cat before Dee hit the Athletics’ bench for the second half of the season.  This year we’ve already seen Dee with his new team, the Bees.  Dee’s batting .217, with five hits, one run (a homer), and 3 RBIs in 23 at bats.

Randy Choate (P) – Milwaukee Brewers (on 15-day DL with broken left – pitching – hand)

Greg Smith (P) – Started the year with the Sacramento River Cats (PCL AAA affiliate of the Oakland Athletics), but recently called up to the Big Club!  He’s pitched in one game up there and has a newly minted big league ERA of 3.00 for six innings of work.  He issued five walks, but also five strikeouts.

Matt Erickson (INF) – Released from the Tucson Sidewinders before Opening Day.  MLB shows Matt as being assigned to the Milwaukee Brewers minor league system, but MiLB doesn’t show a current assignment at this time.

Dave Krynzel (OF) – Started the 2007 season in Tucson and left the team early for personal reasons.  Returned to start the 2008 season with us and was released from the Tucson Sidewinders in early April to make room on the roster for new pitcher, Jon Coutlangus.  No new information on where Dave might’ve landed after we bounced him.

And, of course, we had some of our former Winders promoted to the Diamondbacks!  Those “up there” include: RHP Brandon Medders, RHP Jailen Peguero (just called up to fill Doug Davis’ spot on the roster), RHP Yusmeiro Petit, C Robby Hammock, INF Augie Ojeda, OF Alex Romero, and OF Jeff Salazar.
