Extra Inning Win in Long Beach…Now in Yuma

It took “only” 15 innings, but the Toros split their four-game series with the Long Beach Armada with a 3 to 2 win in game four last night.  Starter Dan Knox didn’t figure in the final decision, though he pitched seven innings of five-hit, two-run ball…with seven Ks!  In fact, the winning pitcher was the fourth Toro to take the mound, Reid Price, who pitched the 12th through the 14th innings (no runs, one hit, one walk, three strikeouts).  Tucson allowed Armada solo runs in the 2nd and 3rd…tied the game with two runs in the 4th…and there the score stood until C Dylan Parzyk doubled in the winning run in the top of the 15th inning.  Clearly a pitcher’s duel (or the duel of many pitchers, as it were), each team was only able to collect eight hits (neither team was charged with any errors).  The only Toro who seemed to have a bead on Armada pitching was 1B Dustin Yount, who racked up three of Tucson’s eight hits!

The Toros are at Yuma for the next three nights before returning to Hi Corbett for Fireworks Friday on July 24th.  Yuma gave us fits when they visited us last month:  let’s hope the guys are now in a better groove with which to face the Columbians!

Host Families.  Yesterday’s Arizona Daily Star featured an excellent article spotlighting how some Tucson families are acting as hosts to individual Toros players.  Fun to see my usher friends Mike and Sue Creenan spotlighted for their hosting of P Danny Greenwalt and SS Ryan Priddy.  Click here to read the article:  http://www.azstarnet.com/allheadlines/301561.php

Melinda- thanks for the plug….we were hoping that more of what we had to say during the interviews would have been included in the article. We’re in Yuma and we watched the first 2 games of the series….with all the turmoil of the Yuma/Toros series in Tucson, absolutely none of that spilled over. There were no repurcssions (sp?) whatsoever-just good solid baseball. Unfortunately, only about 100 to 150 fans saw the action each night. We’ll talk more when we see you soon at Hi Corbett! keep up the good work with your blog!

Mike and Sue – thanks for the comments on the Yuma game…the “official” attendance for the games you saw was, not surprisingly, somewhat higher than your estimate. We know how that goes! LOL

Hey! I’ll be looking to get your autographs on my copy of that article when I see ya’ll at the games this weekend! See you there!
