Walk-Off Walk Wins…for Omaha

Don’t you hate it when you make it into extra innings and then lose a game on a wild pitch?  I’m betting that Tucson closer Evan Scribner hates it even more than you do…

May 24th – Tucson 5; Omaha 6.  Tucson scored four of its runs in a wild fourth inning that saw the Padres bat around.  Jesus Guzman started the inning with a triple and was later forced out at the plate for the first out of the inning; he came up a second time and grounded into the third out for the Pads.  Meanwhile, the Storm Chasers walked two of our runs in; the only Tucson HIT that resulted in runs-scored was a single by Robbie Hudson, which scored the other two runs.  And it looked like starter Will Inman was just cruising!  Five innings, two runs (only one earned), three hits, two walks, four Ks – he left with a solid lead and Greg Burke pitched two innings of one-run relief to earn a “hold.”  Sadly, Luis Perdomo got a blown save for giving up two runs in his two innings of work…but at least we were tied!  So, in walks Evan for 1 1/3 of extra inning relief.  In the 11th, he loads the bases pretty as you please (walk, SAC, intentional walk, walk) and then lets loose with the wild pitch that walked in the winning run for Omaha.  Ouch.  One Tucson error…eight hits…and get this:  13 left on base.  We’ve gotta produce better than that.

Today these teams were to play a day game (I checked everywhere and could not determine why these teams would play a game at 11am Central…not a get-away day…no special promos listed…no clue!), but it was weather-postponed.  Double-header tomorrow with first pitch at 3:05 Tucson time (I think I have that right!).

After the double-header tomorrow in Omaha our Padres return to Kino Stadium for a Memorial Day homestand.  They’ll play four with the Salt Lake Bees and the weekend promises loads of fun at the ol’ ballpark!  There’ll be a T-Pad Tee Shirt giveaway on Friday, Fireworks on Saturday, Military Appreciation Night and a second Bark in the Park event on Sunday, capped by a Memorial Day KiiM Family Night on Monday, May 30th.  For more details, click here:  Promos
