New Guys Big in Win vs. Vegas

Once again Tucson has revamped its roster and this time it bore immediate results…

May 31st  – Tucson 4, Las Vegas 1.  It was slightly disconcerting to read the headline in today’s paper (“Tolleson’s offense leads Padres in LV”) because it took me time to remember that we’d picked up this new guy, Steve Tolleson, from Sacramento…at first I couldn’t figure out what game they were recapping!  Tolleson?  Who?  Ah, my poor ol’ brain!  But man, were the T-Pads helped out by the new duo:  Tolleson, at 3B, went three for five at the plate with an RBI and a stolen base; new pitcher Anthony Bass did a good job in his first Padre start – getting a win for five innings of one-run ball (six hits, no walks, three Ks; newly minted AAA ERA of 1.80).  Tucson’s three relievers issued no walks and no runs, to hold and save the game.  We lost Anthony Rizzo in the sixth when he reaggravated his bruised hand – he’ll be day-to-day.  Matt Clark filled in for Rizzo and did admirably:  he had a solo homer in the seventh to cap the scoring for the evening!  One error for each team.

Going To The Show:  Aaron Cunningham!  The San Diego Padres put CF Cameron Maybin on the 15-day DL with inflammation in his right knee.  The Padres have called up Aaron to replace Maybin!  The team expects Aaron to join them tonight for the finale of the series vs. the Braves.  That game is underway as I type:  our Logan Forsythe is in the starting lineup again, but I don’t see Aaron.  There he is: on the bench…  Good luck, Aaron!

Our Padres are in Las Vegas where they’ll face the 51s (now a Toronto affiliate) for three more games.  They return home next Saturday, June 4th, for four against the Tacoma Rainiers followed by four with the 51s (after an off day between the two series).  See upcoming promotions here:  Promos
