The Tacoma Rainiers evened the series at one apiece as they soundly trounced Tucson in game two of this series…

June 5th  – Tucson 8, Tacoma 16.  When your night starts with two singles and a three-run homer before you record your first out, you probably wish you were somewhere else, maybe even back on the DL.  Such was the start for our Jon Leicester in last night’s game.  It didn’t get much better after an early visit by the pitching coach, and Jon went down with his first loss of the season…three innings, 11 hits (two were multi-run homers), three walks, 11 earned runs, and one strikeout.  At least the fans at the game got to see the long-ball!  There were a total of six home runs last night, though only two by Tucson (thank you Matt Clark and Will Venable!  Each hit a two-run dinger!).  The Padres sent five different pitchers to the mound; choosing to close with Bobby Kielty.  Usually seen roaming the outfield, if I’m not mistaken, this is the second time Manager Terry Kennedy has used Bobby off the bench on the mound.  Bobby worked the final inning and faced four batters.  Sure, he gave up a solo homer, but struck out two and was the only Tucson pitcher not to surrender a walk in the game.  Pitch-Strike ratio:  16 to 10.  Not bad!  Other good news after a dismal night:  no Tucson errors.  And check Venable’s line:  two for four with five RBIs and a stolen base!

You Won’t Want to Miss This!!  Our T-Pads face the Tacoma Rainiers for two more here at home, followed by four with the 51s (after an off day on Wednesday).  See upcoming promotions here:  Promos.  Don’t Forget:  the Famous San Diego Chicken will be in town on June 10th.  You gotta be there for that one!  And hey!  It’s not too early to get your tickets for the Fourth of July Star Spangled Spectacular!  All you former Sidewinders fans should know that the T-Pads will be playing the new DBacks AAA affiliate Reno Aces on that date – what a match up!  Fireworks on the field and off!
