T-Pads Out-Pace the Aces

June 14th – Tucson 4; Reno 3.  Tucson starting pitcher, Jeremy Hefner, gave up single runs in each of the first three innings…but Tucson pitching held the Aces at those three, while our offense used a couple long balls to squeak past the host club.  Three of our four runs came in on homers,  thanks to Jarrett Hoffpauir (a two-run dinger in the second – extending his hitting streak to 17 games) and Matt Clark (hit a solo homer – his tenth this year – in the fourth).    Jesus Guzman tried to be aggressive on the base paths…but was caught stealing AND picked off in his attempts.  Manager Terry Kennedy used two pinch runners and two pinch hitters in the game, meaning 15 different Tucson players showed in the final box score.  Also of note:  Kyle Blanks hit two doubles, took a walk, and had two runs scored…his batting average is now a whopping .391!

MLB’s Realignment Proposal:  Discuss.  Major League Baseball is considering a proposal that would reportedly shift the AZ Diamondbacks from the National League to the American League.  DBack’s President and CEO Derrick Hall has said that he wouldn’t dismiss the proposal outright (Hall), but that he would certainly be sensitive to fan input on the topic.  DBack radio announcers have fielded a number of text messages in their booth during recent games on the topic:  my sense from those is that fans don’t really like the idea.  What say you, dear Diamonds readers?  Would you like to see the DBs become an AL franchise?

Here’s What’s Next:   The Tucson Padres face Reno for two more there, followed by four at Colorado Springs Sky Sox (Rockies Affiliate).  The team returns home to face the Sacramento Rivercats (Athletics Affiliate) for four, beginning on June 21st.  Fresno follows for four here before the T-Pads get another of those rare, and well-deserved, off days.  Don’t forget!!!  It’s not too early to get your tickets for the Fourth of July Star Spangled Spectacular!  The T-Pads will be playing the Reno Aces – what a match up!  Former Tucson Sidewinders team, meet new Tucson Padres team!  Check Promos here.
