Cats Slink Off With Another Win

I attended a game at Kino with some friends during the last homestand.  It had been a hot day but once the sun went down at the Park it was a beautiful, mild evening.  I opined about how it’s always like that at Kino because the breeze flows nicely throughout the stands…yammer yammer yammer…  Well!  Temperature at first pitch last night was a trifling 102 degrees and yes, there was a breeze.  But darned if that breeze didn’t feel like a hair dryer blowing on a low setting.  Okay, not always so refreshing to be at the ballpark in the summer…

June 22nd – Tucson 1; Sacramento 2.  Maybe it wasn’t as cool and pleasant as I’d hoped, but I was very impressed with the game I got to watch.  Tucson’s pitchers (Matt Buschmann, Colt Hynes, and Luis Perdomo) really looked good:  not often we see a true pitcher’s duel!  Although we did commit one costly error (ended up a factor in the final run the River Cats scored to win), play on the field was generally clean, confident, and right on track.  Now, hitting was at a premium on both sides of the field, and I admit I’m a fan of games with a lot of hits and runs, but the game seemed evenly matched and well-played.  Especially facing this River Cats powerhouse, I was very proud of the Tucson Padres last night.  Yes, even though we lost!

Final Line:

Sacramento:  Hits = 5; Runs = 2; Errors = 0

Tucson:  Hits = 6; Runs = 2; Errors = 1

2B Andy Parrino deserves a note:  he went two for two with a walk and a double, was charged with our one error, and also was in the middle of the double play we turned on the Cats.  The guy had his hand in everything!  Jarrett Hoffpauir hit into a DP that scored the T-Pad’s only run – no RBI credited.  Oh, and don’t you just love our battery in the 7th and 8th?  Pitcher Colt Hynes, tossing to catcher Rocky Gale.  Great baseball names!!

One More Transaction.  The organization assigned LHP Pedro Hernandez to Tucson from A-ball at Lake Elsinore.  He’s expected to take the start against Sacramento tonight.  C Eddy Rodriguez took longer than expected to get to Tucson – apparently he couldn’t get a flight from San Antonio yesterday, and so Tucson faced last night’s game with only one active catcher.  Even more pressure on young Rocky Gale

Yes!  There Will Be Fireworks!   Two more games vs. Sacramento at Kino – and loads of fun stuff on tap!  Tonight’s Thirsty Thursday!  I know it’s been hot today, but doesn’t that make cheap beer sound even better?  Go for it!!  Fresno follows for four games starting Saturday night.  GM Mike Feder has indicated that planned fireworks at Kino for THIS Saturday and July 4th are still “a go” in spite of the recent fireworks ban instituted by the County.  So, now more than ever, you’ll want to get tickets for the Fourth of July Star Spangled Spectacular!  It’ll be one of the few places in Tucson to see fireworks during this dangerously dry, hot summer…  AND the T-Pads will be playing the Reno Aces – what a match up!  Former Tucson Sidewinders team, meet new Tucson Padres team!  Check Promos here.

I must agree; it is more entertaining to see a lot of hits and runs!
