Decisive Win Over Sacramento

The Tucson Padres have now won five in a row – all against teams in our Division.  Even more awesome:  last night’s win versus Division-leading Sacramento River Cats was a real THUMPING victory!  Keep it up, Padres!  With Wade LeBlanc on the mound tonight I have tremendous confidence our winning streak will go up another notch!

June 30th – Tucson 12; Sacramento 7.  Kino Stadium is supposed to be one of the best hitter’s parks in the very hitter-friendly PCL…  Well, last night Raley Field was VERY kind to the Tucson Padres!  Tucson put up a total of 18 hits (versus eight for the home team), including one three-run homer (Matt Clark) and four doubles (Matt Clark, Logan Fosythe, and two by Luis Martinez).  Even our two errors (both charged to Everth Cabrera) couldn’t hold us down!  Last time out on the bump, starter Jeremy Hefner faced these Cats for a loss…but last night earned his fifth win of the year for five innings of three-run ball.  Kyle Blanks played LF (vs. 1B) and extended his hitting streak to17 games, though he was one of the few players on the team to get only one hit on the evening.  Both Clark and Martinez got four RBIs; and Cabrera and Forsythe each successfully stole a base.  A powerful outing for our Padres – let’s hope it gives them extra  momentum as they face off against the River Cats again this evening!

Transactions.  C Luis Martinez was activated off the DL and played (well!) in last night’s contest.

Our Own ALL-STAR!  OF Aaron Cunningham has been named as a reserve player in the Triple-A All-Star game on July 13th.  The Pacific Coast League All Stars face off against the All Stars of the International League in this annual event, held this year in Salt Lake City.  Congratulations, Aaron!  Go PCL!!

Here’s What’s Next…   Three more in Sacramento, counting tonight’s contest.  The team returns to Tucson on July 4th for a three-game series against the Reno Aces (Diamondbacks AAA affiliate – formerly known as the Tucson Sidewinders!).  The Padres go all out on the Fourth with their Star Spangled Spectacular.  It’s a big draw, so get your tickets now!  Remember:  there WILL be fireworks!   It’ll be one of the few places in Tucson to see fireworks during this dangerously dry, hot summer…  Plus this is quite a matchup on the field!  Former Tucson (Sidewinders) team, meet new Tucson (Padres) team!  Check Promos here.
