Van Benschoten Gets a Win

Tucson tied up the series in Vegas, one-all, with their victory over the 51s last night.

July 23rd – Tucson 6; Las Vegas 4.  RHP John Van Benschoten took his second start for the T-Pads and earned his first win for seven innings of work.  He gave up three earned runs (two of which came in his final inning of work) on seven hits, two walks, and four Ks.  Evan Scribner followed with a scoreless inning of work and Brad Brach closed the game, earning a save in spite of allowing one more Vegas run.  For a guy who’d just been on the DL with a concussion, CF Aaron Cunningham looked pretty much like the hitter he was a few days ago:  four for five with a double and a triple!  Nice to have him back.  Tucson out-hit the 51s, 14 to 7, and had one error (none for Vegas).  Both Jarrett Hoffpauir (solo in the fourth) and James Darnell (scoring two in the fifth) went deep for the Pads.  Anthony Rizzo got a hit and a double, along with an RBI and a run-scored.  Tucson actually trailed by one run for the first three innings, before getting two in the fourth, three in the fifth, and one in the sixth.

Transactions.  As I mentioned earlier, the Padres activated OF Aaron Cunningham from the 7-day DL (concussion).  That’s all!

Coming Back Home Soon…   The team is in Las Vegas for another two games and will return to Tucson for four against the Colorado Springs Sky Sox on Tuesday, July 26th.  Check local Promos here.
