Solid Win on the Road

After a rather humbling series versus Oklahoma City at Kino this past week, Tucson recovered with a decisive win over the Redbirds (AAA affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals) in Memphis last night.

August 12th – Tucson 8; Memphis 2.  RHP Jon Leicester won his fifth game of the year after going six innings in last night’s contest.  Jon allowed both Memphis runs to score (both earned) on six hits and two walks (only one strikeout), but Tucson managed to maintain a lead and give Jon a win in the final decision.  While SS Steve Tolleson led the team in hits (three for five) and runs-scored (two), 1B Anthony Rizzo was the most productive of the Pads.  He was two for three with two walks, a double, and a two-run homer (his 23rd)…three RBIs and one run scored!  In fact, while Tucson pitching gave up NO homers to the Redbirds, our batters whacked out FOUR homers by four different players.  Pedro Feliz and Drew Macias both hit their first homers for Tucson; Jarrett Hoffpauir hit his fifth.  No Tucson errors and Tucson turned three double plays in the victory.  That’s the way to do it, guys!  Let’s see if they can do this consistently through the end of the season:  I’d love to see them end up with a .500 (or better) record!

Transactions.  I should’ve mentioned yesterday that RHP Ernesto Frieri’s assignment to Tucson is for MLB rehab.  Tucson also put OF Eric Patterson on the 7-day DL yesterday for a right wrist sprain.

Last Homestand Begins on August 20th!!   The T-Pads are on the road at American Division teams (Memphis and Nashville) for the next seven days and return home for four against PCL-leading Sacramento and four vs. those DBack-affiliate Aces (from Reno) beginning on Saturday, Aug 20th.  This will be the final homestand of the season (a fact which I have a hard time believing!  Where did the season go?), so you gotta make time to catch a game!  GM Mike Feder and staff have lots of good things on tap for the fans!  Check it out:  Promos
