A Win for Split Series in Nashville

The T-Pads just squeaked by the Sounds in the final game of their series in Nashville last night, which means our guys come home with a two-game winning streak in place.  We’ll need all the good vibe we can manage, because we face the PCL powerhouse River Cats at Kino this weekend.  Let’s go, Tucson!

August 19th – Tucson 4; Nashville 3.   Here’s what I love most about last night’s game:   starting pitcher, Jeremy Hefner, scored the first run in the game (for either team) with his first homer of the year in the fifth inning!  For a time it looked like that simple lead might be enough, but then we gave up a single run to the Sounds in the seventh to tie the game.  But what an evening for Jeremy: six and two-thirds innings…one earned run on three hits and three walks (and one hit batsman); seven Ks…and his first home run.  A strong outing, but not enough for a win.  With two out and one on in the bottom of the seventh, Tucson Manager Terry Kennedy sent rehabbing pitcher Ernesto Frieri to the mound in relief.  Frieri gave up the Hefner run on a double before ending the inning with a strikeout.  Blown save for Frieri, but the T-Pad offense came to the rescue in the top of the eighth, giving Frieri his first AAA win.  In that frame, Anthony Rizzo reached on a fielding error, then the Sounds pitcher walked two consecutive Padres in front of a two-run double credited to Luis Martinez.  After a groundout, a pitching change, and several offensive substitutions, the Sounds tossed a wild pitch that scored Bobby Kielty for the Padres’ final run in the inning (and game).  Hey, we’ll take those wins any way we can get ‘em!  The Sounds put up single runs in each of the eighth and ninth innings – not enough to beat us this time!  Whew!

Transactions.  No new transactions reported.

Final Homestand Begins NOW!!   The T-Pads are home for four against Sacramento followed by five vs. those DBack-affiliate Aces (from Reno).  This will be the final homestand of the season, so you gotta make time to catch a game!  GM Mike Feder and staff have lots of good things on tap for the fans!  Check it out:  Promos
