2012 T-Pads in The Show

As I looked at the box score for last night’s San Diego Padres’ loss, I was struck by the fact that all of their relievers have come to them from Tucson this year!  Each did quite well, though the team’s offense didn’t do much to support their cause.  This got me thinking it might be time to take a quick look at how OUR guys have done in the Bigs this year…

Blake Tekotte:  Before his return to Tucson this week, Blake had been used as a pinch-hitter for the Parent Unit.  This always frustrates me:  they take an everyday player, let him ride the bench and demand that he come in swinging like he had in the minors.  Grossly unfair, I think, but…  In any case, Blake got three at-bats and struck out once.  A zero batting average.  I know he’ll shine for us and someday will make the transition to an everyday BIG league player!

Alex Hinshaw:  Just called up and has already pitched 1 1/3 innings with no runs allowed.  No hits or walks against him, either – one K.   In fact, this is awesome:  the top three SD pitchers with the best ERA have been T-Pads this year!

Dale Thayer:  In six total innings, Dale has allowed no runs on four hits, no walks – five Ks…and he’s earned two saves.

Jeff Suppan:  Started two games for a total of ten innings pitched.  He’s allowed one earned run on eight hits and four walks.  Three Ks.  And his Big League record for 2012 is two wins and no losses!

Brad Brach:  In 8 2/3 innings across nine games (and two different call ups), Brad has allowed three earned runs on six hits (one homer) and nine walks.  Nine Ks.  He has one Big League loss, but he still ranks 10th on SD’s pitching list.

Joe Wieland:  Has had a tougher time of things as a starter.  In five starts, he’s pitched 27 2/3 innings and allowed 16 runs (14 earned) for an ERA of 4.55.  He’s taken four losses with no wins, but has struck out 24 batters.

Josh Spence:  In ten relief appearances, Josh has pitched 9 1/3 innings, allowing five earned runs for an ERA of 4.82.  10 Ks and one loss.

Transactions and Injury Report.  Nothing new to report.
