Sweep Was Not in the Cards

Tucson was unable to sweep the series in Sacramento;  in fact they were shutout in their final game yesterday afternoon.  However, they did WIN the series by taking the first three!  The T-Pads started an A-Ball promotee, Will Scott, who went the four innings allotted him by management and allowed two runs on six hits and two walks.  He struck out three.  Will ended up with the loss, his first in AAA this season. Yesterday’s other new A-Ball promotee, Chris Haney, took the next two innings and allowed three runs on three hits and a walk.  He struck out one.  Jason Ray finished the game for the Pads and allowed one more run on four hits and two walks.  No strikeouts.  While each of our pitchers proved to be hittable, that wasn’t the case for the Sacramento staff.  Their starter, Daniel Straily, allowed only three hits and one walk in six innings of work.  And that was IT for our offense.  Straily struck out nine T-Pads, as well.  Andy Parrino (with two hits – one was a double) and Jeremy Hermida (one double) were the only Padres to get a hit in the game;  Hermida and Matt Clark also reached on walks.  We couldn’t even take advantage of the two errors charged to the River Cats!  Face it:  this one was all about the Cats.  And so Tucson heads north to Tacoma today for another four-game series there.  Tacoma sits at the bottom of the Pacific North Division with a record of 41 wins and 61 losses.  I’m hoping the guys can put this loss behind them and take another series in Tacoma.  Go Tucson!!  Final Score:  Tucson 0; Sacramento 6.

Transactions and Injury Report.   INF Jonathan Roof’s assignment to Eugene Emeralds has now shown up on the Transaction site.  That appears to be the only news today.

On The Road Until July 28th.   The T-Pads are now in Tacoma for four at Rainiers (Wednesday’s game will be at 11:05am).  Remember, this year you can catch ALL Tucson Padres’ games on Tejano Radio 1600 AM.  You don’t have to miss a single pitch!  And be sure to mark your calendars for July 28th!  The Pads return to Kino to kick off a five-game series (played in four days) vs. Tacoma and the staff has put together an extra special evening for that Saturday night.  Not only will there be Fireworks after the game, but the game will feature the appearance of Beto and Chacho!  Plan to come see the famous mascot Chacho from the Obregon Yaquis and Beto from the Hermosillo Naranjeros in this sneak preview of what’s to come for our Mexican Baseball Fiesta October 5-7.  I saw these mascots last year – they’re definitely worth seeing, fans!
