Ace’s Shutout Tucson

I was unable to follow last night’s game until the final inning…looks like I picked a good one to miss, as the Reno Aces dominated and dealt the home team another shutout loss.  Tucson had faced – and beaten – Reno’s starter, Zeke Spruill, just 10 days ago, but last night Spruill looked like a totally different pitcher.  He tossed eight innings and only allowed the Pads four total hits and two walks.  For his work, he earned his third win of the season.  Brandon Kloess took the loss for Tucson, going five and two-thirds innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on six hits and one walk.  All the runs came in late – the early innings had been a true pitcher’s duel!  He was able to strikeout eight – and it’s impressive that his walk tally was so low.  Brad Boxberger and Daniel Stange each allowed a run in their relief work.  Stange gave up the game’s only homer; thankfully just a solo shot.  Tommy Layne returned to the mound for Tucson after playing in The Show and tossed a scoreless ninth (no hits or walks, either).  Bottomline:  Tucson couldn’t get their offense going against the Aces last night.  Only four Pads were able to get a hit – and only Rene Rivera was able to get more than one hit (he way out-hit his teammates with his THREE singles).  More bad news for Tucson – everyone else in our Division won last night, so we’ve fallen back a game in the standings once again.  Two more against Reno here at home, however – we’ll get them tonight!  Go Tucson!  Final Score:  Tucson 0; Reno 5.

Transactions.  There’s a hilarious mistake in today’s League Transactions site!  It says that the AZ Diamondbacks have sent 2B Aaron Hill to the Tucson Padres for a rehab assignment!  Ha ha!  Of course, Aaron IS in Tucson…but he’s assigned to Reno, not the T-Pads.  As I understand it, Hill will play for Reno tonight and take tomorrow night off – he’s hoping for a quick return to the DBacks.  Apparently Jaff Decker injured himself making a play in CF last night – don’t know if he’ll start tonight, but it doesn’t look like he’s gone on the DL.

T-Pads Are Home!   The Tucson Padres remain home at Kino Stadium tonight and face the Reno Aces (AAA Diamondbacks).  They’ve got two more against the Former Tucson Sidewinders, and then they’ll play their first series of the season against Division opponent, the Las Vegas 51s (AAA Mets).  All of the games in the homestand will be played at 7:05pm (gates open at 6pm).  Lots of cool promotions on tap, as well!  Tonight is Military Appreciation and Bark in the Park Night.  All military personnel (active, retired and veterans) and a guest will receive two free Box Seats with a Military ID.  Dogs will also be admitted free with their owners. The first 250 dogs receive a free Frisbee.  And it’s Father’s Day!  Why not take your dad out to a ballgame this weekend?  You know he’d love it!  Tomorrow night is Family Four-Pack Night – any group or family of four can get four box seats, four hot dogs and four soft drinks for only $20. You can’t beat those prices!  See you at the ballpark!
