Big Ol’ Win!

When I finally got my post up yesterday, Tucson and Reno were in the ninth inning of their day game, and Tucson held a substantial lead.  Good news:  the lead not only held up, but Tucson padded it with a three-run ninth inning.  Part of the ninth-inning excitement came from a two-run homer by Cameron Maybin – his second homer on this rehab assignment with Tucson.  The ninth-inning runs were the first Tucson scored since the fourth.  During those innings when the Pads were not scoring, Reno kept adding single runs…but they weren’t able to get very close to threatening Tucson’s lead.  Burch Smith earned the win – his second as a T-Pad.  He also hit a double (and scored a run) in his first at-bat!  So far, Burch is making this triple-A stuff look easy!  Jorge Reyes and Matt Lollis each took two innings of relief – they weren’t scoreless, but they were sufficient to hold the Aces back.  The Pads out-hit the Aces, 18 to 9.  Almost every Tucson starter had at least one hit (Brandon Allen was the main exception…and he reached twice on walks)…Rene Rivera and Jesus Merchan were absolutely on fire!  Rene went three for five, with a homer, four RBIs, and two runs-scored.  Jesus was four for six at the plate, with two doubles and three RBIs. Well done, Tucson!  Sacramento also won yesterday, so we retained our spot in second, one back of the River Cats.  BUT we are five games over .500!  This year’s Tucson team ROCKS!  Final Score: Tucson 13; Reno 5.

Transactions.  To repeat the moves made yesterday:  Brad Boxberger has been recalled by San Diego…but Robbie Erlin has been optioned back to Tucson.  Otherwise there’s nothing new online today.  Yet.

On The Road…Again.   The Tucson Padres are enjoying cooler weather on the road in Reno, playing the Aces (AAA Diamondbacks) in their home park.  Tonight’s game – the third in the series – will be at 7:05pm.  You can catch that game LIVE on 1290AM The Source, or off the Tucson Padres website (see link at top left of this site).  The final game of the series will be played tomorrow at 12:05pm.  It will also be broadcast live.  The PCL enjoys another rare off day on Wednesday before the Padres return home to Kino Stadium on Thursday, June 6th for another fun Thirsty Thursday event.  There are a LOT of major promotions and events (two concerts!  the ugliest uniforms in all of sports!) during a brief, four-game homestand.  You won’t want to miss a minute of it – be sure to mark your calendars now and plan to root-root-root for the home team later this week!
